The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao achieved a significant milestone with the successful hosting of its first International Students Solidarity Fund Fundraising Dinner, an event that brought together academic leaders, industry partners, and community supporters in a shared commitment to expanding educational access for international students facing financial hardship. The initiative reinforces USJ’s long‑standing mission to cultivate a diverse, inclusive, and globally engaged academic environment—an increasingly strategic asset for Macao’s evolving social and economic landscape.

Held at the Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16, the dinner gathered approximately 140 guests and raised around MOP 295,000, building on the HKD 250,000 anchor donation pledged earlier by philanthropist Dr. Anthony Kwok‑Ki Yeung. The strong turnout and cross‑sector participation underscore the community’s recognition of the critical role international students play in enriching Macao’s cultural fabric and strengthening its talent pipeline.

Acting Rector Dr. Alejandro Salcedo emphasized that the Solidarity Fund ensures no student is forced to interrupt their studies due to financial constraints. In a region where tourism, hospitality, and integrated resorts rely heavily on multicultural fluency and global talent mobility, USJ’s initiative represents a forward‑looking investment in Macao’s long‑term competitiveness.

Representatives from The Platinum Ltd Strategic Consulting Group, including Managing Director Mary Mendoza, joined donors, contributors, and supporters such as members of the Board of Directors of TODA Macau. Their participation reflects a shared belief that equitable access to higher education is foundational to sustainable development—particularly in sectors where human capital, cultural intelligence, and service excellence drive economic value.

The Platinum Ltd extends its warmest congratulations to USJ for its leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to supporting international students. The success of this inaugural fundraising dinner demonstrates the university’s ability to mobilize partners across industries and communities toward a common purpose.

In alignment with UN SDG4: Quality Education, The Platinum Ltd contributed a culturally significant artwork to the charity auction: a calligraphy piece by Master Huang Chaolin (黄朝林), one of China’s most respected National Level 1 calligraphers. Huang’s mastery across cursive, running, clerical, and brush‑pressed scripts has earned him national acclaim, with market valuations ranging from ¥6,000–¥8,000 per square foot and notable auction performance, including a ¥250,000 sale at Sotheby’s Greater China Summer Auction.

The donated work Chairman Mao Zedong’s poem “Qi Jue (The Fairy Cave)”, measuring 73cm x 205cm embodies the philosophical depth and artistic lineage of Chinese calligraphy. Its themes of resilience, natural beauty, and aspiration resonate with the spirit of the Solidarity Fund and the students it aims to support.

From a sectoral perspective, initiatives like USJ’s Solidarity Fund contribute to strengthening Macao’s talent ecosystem at a time when the hospitality, tourism, and integrated resort industries are undergoing structural transformation. As global markets shift toward experience‑driven travel and culturally immersive offerings, the development of internationally educated, culturally competent professionals becomes a strategic necessity.

USJ’s successful fundraising dinner demonstrates how academia, private enterprise, and civil society can collaborate to build a more inclusive and future‑ready workforce one that supports Macao’s diversification agenda and enhances its position as a regional hub for education, culture, and innovation.

The Platinum Ltd proudly congratulates the University of Saint Joseph on this meaningful achievement. The event’s success reflects USJ’s dedication to educational excellence, social responsibility, and global solidarity. It is an honor to support this mission, and The Platinum Ltd looks forward to continued collaboration in advancing opportunities for students who will shape the future of Macao and the broader region.
